Gerald Farinelli

August 26, 1946 — September 30, 2020


Gerald Richard Farinelli, 74, passed away peacefully at home on September 30, 2020. Born in Staten Island to the late Eleanor and Gaetano Farinelli, he was raised in West Brighton.
He attended McKee High school and received his GED and also attended the Brooklyn Academy of Music.

Gerald served in the U.S. Army as a Military Police Sargeant in Fort Gordon, Georgia and Fort McCellan, Alabama from 1966 to 1968.

He attended air-conditioning school and became a technician.  Gerald worked  as an auto mechanic at the Bradley Avenue Service Station, and at Memoly Motors on Richmond Terrace.
He worked for the NYC Department of Motor Equipment from 1972 until his retirement in 1990.  While there, he worked in Manhattan at the Boro Shop, then at the Staten Island Landfill from 1975 to 1990. He belonged to NYC Local 246.

Gerald was a  member of the S.I. Tuna Club and participated in Tuna Tournaments in Gloucester, MA. He owned several boats for pleasure and sport fishing, docking them at the marina at National Gateway. He participated in Shark Tournaments out of Long Island. Gerald was an A-1 mechanic and "If it didn't have an engine, he did not like it."
He enjoyed snowmobiling in the Catskills and Adirondacks. He owned ATVs and a classic 80's Oldsmobile, which he entered into car shows on Staten Island and N.J.. He took many trips on his motorcycle with his friend, Peter Toscano.

He enjoyed dancing, music from the 50's and 60's, making his own CD's,and loved attending Doo-wop shows.

He was predeceased by his brother, Richard Farinelli, sisters, Antoinette Friedman, Lillian Pristera, Anna Baldwin, and niece, Patti Pristera

He is survived by his beloved wife, Valerie, of 54 years. He is also survived by his nephews Allan, Richard and Steven Baldwin, Jeffrey, Curtis and Peter Cleary, sister-in-law, Florence Cleary.

Funeral from Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home on Saturday at 10:00AM. Mass of Christian burial at Our Lady Help of Christian's RC Church at 10:30AM. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery.

Friends may visit Friday from 3-8PM

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Gerald's name to Staten Island University Hospice would be appreciated.
