Ann Fitzgerald

July 17, 1931 — September 18, 2019

Ann Fitzgerald, born Ann Margaret Alberta Schnurr, passed peacefully in the late hours of September 18, 2019 at the age of 88. The youngest and last surviving of seven children, she was raised by a single mother in Tottenville during the depression. A Staten Island south shore native with three generations preceding and three following her, she was a repository of both family and island history and folklore. She will be remembered by all as compassionate, loving, doting, resilient and resourceful, holding many roles as mother, wife, caregiver, healer, seamstress, bus matron, and friend. Now reunited with her husband of 58 years, William Fitzgerald who left us in 2008. Enjoying retirement years at their summer home in PA with family. Surviving are sons, Patrick and William, grandchildren Jennifer, David, and Robert, and great-grand daughter Elizabeth.

The island lost a historian and our family lost its matriarch. May we always keep present in our minds and hearts, the importance of her roles and do our best to fill them for our family and community. A memorial service will be held on Friday September 27 from 2-5 and 7-9PM at Bedell-Pizzo Funeral home in Tottenville.
