Carol Per Lee Plumb

August 31, 1932 — July 27, 2019

Longtime Richmond Valley resident, Ms. Carol Per Lee Plumb, passed away Saturday afternoon in Staten Island University Hospital North after a brief battle with cancer at the young age of 87.  A devoted parishioner of Bethel United Methodist Church in Tottenville,  Carol was very active in many ways. She sang in the choir, helped out with all charitable events and always looked forward to Bible Study on Tuesdays.  If Carol wasn't able to make it that day, Pastor Matt would have Carol join in with her fellow parishioners' on speakerphone which amazed Carol.

After graduating Tottenville HS as a lifetime Honor Roll Student, Carol headed to Harvard Law School and was honored to become the first woman graduate at Harvard.  It was then that she took off and became a very active, feisty and successful attorney.  During the 1960's, Carol, who was a beautiful young woman, became a fashion model.  It was about that same time that she began a love for the Opera, and became a generous supporter of The Metropolitan Opera.  She always looked forward to her Saturday afternoons and listening to the live opera productions on her radio.  Carol also loved to make her way up to the polls every Election Day to help voters find their way.

During her lifetime at her home in Richmond Valley, she was devoted to keeping her houses in old fashioned restored condition.  As a member of the Tottenville Historical Society, Carol took pride in the restoration and preservation of older homes in her community.  In 2000, Carol and Robert Sindle, who is a Master Carpenter and Carols' longtime friend, won awards from the Chamber of Commerce for restoring one of Carol's houses in Richmond Valley. This beautiful home is still and hopefully will always be kept in its excellent condition for years to come in honor of Carol.  The barn behind the house was also just completed by Robert and Carol was beaming with pride after its completion.  Carol said, "It's perfect".

A true animal lover, Carol had everything around her house from deer to horses, but her pride and joy were her cats, especially Sparky and Sammy, who just made Carol a "Grandma" with four kittens before her passing.

For those who didn't get the chance to know Carol, she was a beautiful, generous, kind, loving woman in her own wonderful way. She will be missed by all and forever loved.

Carol was the daughter of John W. and Ida (Clarius) Plumb and sister to John C. Plumb, who preceded her in death. Carol was Aunt and God Mother to her niece, Leslie E. Collins (Plumb) who also preceded her in death. Carol is survived by her loving nephew John E. Collins (Plumb), his wife Constance, of Toledo Ohio and niece Susan Rueter, her husband Darren of Chester, NJ, and grand nieces and nephews Logan, Emily, Ethan, Thomas, Aidan, Brian and Erin. She will be greatly missed.
