Dominick Codispodo

June 11, 1940 — July 9, 2021

Dominick Codispodo, 81 years old of Staten Island, NY, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2021, surrounded by his loving family.  Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather (Hops), Brother, Uncle Dom, Cousin, and Friend, he will be terribly missed by all.  Dom was predeceased by his beloved wife of 57 years Fran, who passed away just 25 days before Dom.  Dom is survived by his daughter Jeanine, his grandchildren Dana and Jamie, his future son-in-law Mike, his sister Nancy, his sister-in-law Rosemarie, and many nephews, nieces, cousins, and close friends.  In addition to his wife Fran, Dom was preceded in death by his beloved son Eddie (a proud U.S. Marine), his beloved brothers-in-law Lou and Tom, and his dear parents Rachel and Edward.

Dom was born and raised in the Borough Park section of Brooklyn New York.  He attended the High School of Performing Arts in Manhattan where he majored in music and played the saxophone.  He was an excellent baseball player through his youth and high school years (once throwing out opposing teammate Joe Torre at home plate).  Dom married Fran in 1964 at St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church.  They raised a family in Brooklyn and relocated to Staten Island in the 1980’s.  Dom had a long career in the printing business beginning at Ball Engraving Company before starting his own business, MRS Graphics.  He also enjoyed many nights working as a bartender at the Glen Terrace in Brooklyn where he poured stiff drinks and entertained the guests with his clever wit and great sense of humor, as well as often being complimented for his Elvis Presley-like good looks.

Dom loved spending time with his family, eating his mom’s and wife’s great meals, telling corny jokes, drinking his Dewar’s on the rocks, and forever cheering on his beloved Mets (while always despising the Yankees)!  He always looked on the bright side, he enjoyed life, loved spending time with his dear friends, and never complained about anything or had a bad word to say about anyone.  Later in life, during his early retirement years his most fulfilling “job” was caring for his granddaughters, from babysitting to being the designated school drop off and pick up service, where he was known to show up two hours early to never be late for the girls.

He was the best “Uncle Dom” any nephew and niece could ask for, very actively involved in their lives and their children’s lives.  He had a tremendous sense of humor, was a great storyteller, always saving his best new comedy material for the Holidays (favorites including: “A horse walks into a bar, the bartender says why the long face?” or “Guess who was asking about you…absolutely no one…” and his infamous “Were you born at a young age?”).

Dom has left us with countless fond memories and will be remembered for his easy going and relaxed style, positive outlook on life and the beneficial impact he had on the lives of those he touched.  He will be greatly missed, and never forgotten.  His family finds solace in the belief that Dom has been reunited with his wife Fran and son Eddie in heaven.
