Joseph Savino

January 28, 1940 — March 1, 2021

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joseph Savino of Staten Island.  He was 81 years old.  Joe was born in Little Italy NYC, the youngest of four children.  He loved reminiscing about the old days back on Mulberry Street, like playing with his friends and eating fruit from his grandfather’s cart.  He grew to be a generous, kind and devoted family man.  Joe was loved by many and when you became a friend to Joe, you knew you had a friend for life.  Joe’s family moved to Brooklyn, and after high school he joined the army.  He proudly served his country and was honorably discharged from service.  It was on Jackson Place that Joe developed life-long friends, including meeting and marrying the love of his life Patricia.  Joe was employed by the NYC Sanitation.  He raised his family, and watched his children and grandchildren grow into the loving, caring people they are today.  In his younger years, he was an avid deer hunter, while forming great friendships by going on yearly hunting trips, and cooking for his hunting buddies.  Later in life, he relocated to Staten Island, New York and helped to raise his grandchildren.  Joe had many passions in life, he enjoyed the taste of a good cigar, an exceptional meal, and spending time with his family and friends.  He was an avid fan of his grandson’s baseball team.  He was a die-hard Yankee fan, a frequent visitor to Atlantic City, and he took great pleasure in going to the local horse racing tracks.  His greatest entertainment was becoming a partial race horse owner at the Drawing Away Stables and joining his family and buddies multiple times in the winner’s circle.  Joe had a strong presence, he commanded a room and he was a dapper well-dressed man.  A true gentleman, his bark was always worse than his bite.  Joe is predeceased by his beautiful late wife Patricia with whom he celebrated 53 years of marriage.  His parents Andrew and Rose Savino, his sisters Bella and Rachel, and his brother Frank.  In addition to his countless friends and family, he is survived by his children Frank Savino, Dina Martine, and six beautiful grandchildren: Nicole, Danielle, Victoria, Frank, Natalie and Michael.  He is also survived by his loving companion Dawn Baldwin, of whom he has happily spent the remaining few years of his life in love and happiness.  Joe lived every day to the fullest and wouldn’t have lived any other way.  In the words sung by Frank Sinatra, Joe definitely lived his life Joe’s way.
