Mark E Mattsson Sr, 60, of Brick NJ, passed away on May 11, 2020 of complications from leukemia.

Mark was born in Staten Island, but moved to Brick NJ 33 years ago with his loving wife Charlotte where they raised two wonderful children together.

He retired from the PVH Corporation after 36 years as a network specialist, but retirement didn’t suit him well and he was currently working as a network consultant. To most people that’s technical gibberish though, and instead they knew him as “The Computer Guy.” The one who was always willing to lend a hand when your computer was on the fritz, and the only price you had to pay was dealing with his sarcasm for a few hours!

Computers didn’t define Mark though, he was a man of many hats (seriously there’s dozens of them in the closet). Many Brick parents will likely remember him for his patience and commitment as a coach for many recreational sports teams and as a Cub Scout leader over the years as his children grew up. Family and friends always knew how to find him at parties; they just had to look for him behind his camera, snapping thousands of photos and playing with the all settings he claimed to understand. Those who are avid Facebook users saw the creative side of him every week as they waited for the next elaborate cocktail to show up in his feed. And whether you were interested in sports or not, it was never a secret to anyone that Mark was a dedicated fan of all Pittsburgh sports teams. He was a man who bled black and gold, and he wasn’t afraid to let you know it.

So whether you knew him as a family member, neighbor, co-worker, friend, or just as the guy on Facebook who made cool cocktails on Friday… I know that you all knew him as the funny, quick-witted man that we all loved. And you know that during the time he had on this earth he always inspired those around him to live a life brimming with love and humor.

Mark is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Charlotte and his daughter Katie and son Mark Jr, as well as his father Arne Sr., his 4 sisters: Debbie, Pam, Pat, and Marguerite, his 3 brothers: Arne Jr., Paul, and Mike, and myriad nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother Daisy.

Funeral arrangements will be private due to the current circumstances. A memorial service will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers please donate to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Ronald McDonald House.
