Alessandro Guarnera, 57, of Annadale, a musician and native of Italy, died Saturday at home of cancer.

Born in Palermo, Italy, he moved to New Springville in 1989 and to Annadale in 1998.

A musician, he was the founder of the family band, "The M.G.M. Guarnera Brothers." The band has been playing at venues throughout the tri-state area since 1974.

"He was a best friend and a great example to everyone that knew him," said his family.

In addition to playing music, Mr. Guarnera enjoyed playing soccer.

He was a parishioner of Our Lady Star of the Sea R.C. Church, Huguenot.

Surviving are his wife of 22 years, the former Eileen Zapin; three daughters, Alessandra, Jennifer and Krizia Guarnera; three brothers, Armando, Riccardo and Roby, and two sisters, Elena Riccobono and Rosanna Campo.

The funeral will be Wednesday from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville, with a mass at noon in Our Lady Star of the Sea Church. Entombment will be in Moravian Cemetery, New Dorp.
