Barbara Ann Oliver
September 3, 1938 – April 8, 2026
Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother Barbara Oliver of Jackson, NJ, formerly of Princes Bay, Staten Island passed away on April 8, 2026. Barbara was born on September 3, 1938 in Brooklyn, NY to James and Henrietta Feeley. At 14 years of age, Barbara met the love of her life Donald K. Oliver. They were married in October 1957, and moved to Staten Island in the spring of 1966 where they raised 4 children. Barbara and Donald were married for 67 years preceding Donald’s death in 2023.
For many years Barbara stayed at home raising her 4 children. Above anything and everything she was a devoted wife and Mom. In 1979, Barbara and Don purchased the Pleasant Plains Luncheonette which they owned and operated until 1991. From 1991 until 2000, Barbara dedicated her time, devotion, and love as a full-time caregiver to her grandchildren. Barbara finished her career as a school bus matron for Atlantic Express before retiring to Jackson, NJ in 2009.
Barbara enjoyed reading and was also an avid swimmer who loved the beach and ocean. She traveled with her husband and looked forward each year to family vacations with all of her children and grandchildren.
Barbara was an extraordinary woman whose warmth and kindness touched every life she encountered. Her happiness and purpose in life was her family. She was a very proud Mom and grandmother.
Barbara was truehearted, courageous, hardworking, and full of joy and spirit. She was the source of unwavering love and strength to her family. On September 11, 2001, Barbara and Don experienced the tragic and devastating loss of their youngest son, Edward, aged 31 years. Edward was a floor broker at the NYMEX exchange, a young professional who left behind a wife and two young children. This haunting experience was a burden on her heart until she passed away at age 87.
Barbara is survived by two sons, Don Oliver and James Oliver; and a daughter, Barbara Smith. She is predeceased by her loving husband Don and her youngest son Edward Oliver. Barbara also leaves behind 8 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and 3 daughters in law, Laurie, Sheryl, and Charlene Oliver.
Barbara will leave behind a legacy of warm-heartedness, family devotion and values, and her genuine love for her friends and family. She was an amazing woman and loved by many. Her memory will be cherished and deeply missed by all who knew her.
