STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Bertha Eagle, 85, a lifelong Tottenville resident and retired child care aide who loved animals and the outdoors, died Friday in Richmond University Medical Center, West Brighton.
Born Bertha Anderson, she was a graduate of Tottenville High School and worked as a child care aide at the Mission of Immaculate Virgin at Mount Loretto in Pleasant Plains for many years, retiring in 1993.
Mrs. Eagle enjoyed knitting, gardening and cooking. She also like to watch television game shows.
"She was the best mother anyone could have asked for," said her son, Kenneth.
She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Tottenville.
In addition to her son, Kenneth, surviving are her husband of 61 years Wallace; two daughters, Gloria Eagle and Carol Barringer; seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 8 p.m. in the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville. Arrangements include cremation.
