Carmela Sheehan

October 5, 1938 — August 6, 2023

Carmela Sheehan passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 6, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer. With her family by her side she fought cancer with grace and dignity and never lost her faith. She knew it was in Gods hands. She was 84 years old.

Carmela was born in Brooklyn, New York to Jack and Rose (Di Bella) Puglia on October 5, 1938.

Carmela grew up in a big Italian family, five brothers and five sisters. As a teenager she met the love of her life, John J. Sheehan. They were married for 65 years. She then moved to Staten Island, NY to raise her three children.

Carmela was a hands on Mom and Grandma. She loved to volunteer at her children's schools and at Democratic Conventions in the 70's. Carmela was a devoted parishioner at Our Lady Star of the Sea RC Church for over 55 years. She loved Jesus and hung onto her faith.

Carmela is survived by her beloved husband, John; her loving children, Roseann Caravello and her husband Matthew, Joseph Sheehan and his wife Wanda, and Cathy Budis and her husband James. She was a beloved Grandma to 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She was loved by her sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and nieces and nephews. She was loved by many friends at her church.
