Charles G. Dunn, a beloved member of the Staten Island community residing in Tottenville, passed away on September 5, 2024, at the age of 77. Born on February 26, 1947, in the Bronx, Charles led a life dedicated to service, family, and camaraderie.
Charles had a distinguished career, beginning with his service in the United States Navy aboard the USS Keppler DD-765 during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1967. After his military service, he proudly served as a member of the New York City Police Department from which he retired. He then taught in the New York City Public Schools until he retired. He was a long-standing member of the Staten Island Pipes and Drums as well as a member of the SSG Michael Ollis VFW Post 9587.
Beyond his professional contributions, Charles was a devoted husband to his wife, Christine "Tina" Kaasmann Dunn. He is remembered fondly by family members including his brothers-in-law Jerry O'Shea, Herb Kaasmann and his wife Karen, Ken Kaasmann and his wife Laurie, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Peter Dunn and Alice Dunn, and his sister, Lorraine O'Shea. These family ties, both living and departed, were an essential part of his life, shaping the man he became.
