Concepcion “Connie” Bougades, 88, of Staten Island, NY, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Her life was a testament to courage, resilience and profound devotion to her loved ones.
Born on December 23rd, 1936 in the Province of Camaguey, Cuba, Connie’s early years were marked by her pursuit of education, ultimately earning a Bachelor’s degree in Education from the Cuban Ministry of Higher Education. In 1958, she bravely emigrated from Cuba to the United States, a journey that would shape her future and her family’s legacy. Connie married her first husband, Oskar Stehmer, in 1960, and together they welcomed two beloved daughters, Michele (1961) and Patricia (1962), whom Connie would raise with fierce love, boundless pride, and high expectations. After Oskar’s passing, Connie found love again with her devoted husband, Robert Bougades, with whom she shared many happy years. Family was the heart of Connie’s world. She was endlessly proud of her daughters and took immense joy in the lives and accomplishments of her beloved grandchildren - Robert, Chloe, Hannah, Caroline, and Julia as well as her two great grandchildren, Oskar and Maxwell. Connie's greatest satisfaction came from nurturing her family, encouraging them to pursue excellence, and celebrating their successes.
In 1968, Connie realized her dream of becoming an American citizen. Professionally, she held a long and dedicated career as a Trust Administrator for Fiduciary Trust, where her attention to detail and reliability were deeply valued. After years of hard work, she retired in 2000. A talented landscape artist, Connie’s paintings reflected her eye for beauty. She loved to dance and filled her home with music, creating a joyful environment for her family and loved ones.
Her legacy is that of devotion to family, strength in adversity and unyielding encouragement. Connie constantly motivated her children and grandchildren to reach their highest potential, teaching by example the value of perseverance and strength. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A viewing will be held on Friday, August 22nd from 9:00am to 11:00am, followed by a brief service and interment at Moravian Cemetery, 2205 Richmond Road, Staten Island.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Connie’s remarkable life at a repast immediately following at Cafe Bella Vita, 1919 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Hospice Foundation in Concepcion's name would be appreciated. https://hospicefoundation.org/donate/
