Doris Johnsen

Doris C Johnsen, 98, went home to be with her Lord on December 31, 2018 after a short illness.  Born Doris Constance Videon on June 20, 1920.  She was a native of Tottenville, where she spent most of her life until entering SeaView Hospital and Rehabilitation Center five years ago.   She worked as a secretary before her marriage, then devoted her life to her family and church.  She was an active lay leader in South Baptist Church, Tottenville where she taught Sunday School and served as a deacon’s wife for 40 years.  She also created South Baptist’s Ladies Missionary Society.  She entertained many pastors and missionaries in her home.  Besides her family, she enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, J. Edward Johnsen in 2007 and her son-in-law, Glen W. McCourt in 2017.  She was the loving mother and mother-in-law to Dr. Peter (Jackie) of New Jersey, Elizabeth McCourt, David (Terri) of Texas and Thomas (Sue).  She was the cherished grandmother of thirteen grandchildren and beloved great-grandmother of 24 great-grandchildren.
