Edward T. Mahoney

December 20, 1929 — May 2, 2025

Edward Mahoney, 95, of Staten Island, Beloved Father, NYPD Captain, and Navy Veteran

Edward Mahoney, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, Navy veteran, and retired NYPD captain, passed away at the age of 95. Born on December 20, 1929, in Brooklyn, New York, to Edward and Florence Mahoney, he was raised in the Park Slope neighborhood alongside his two sisters, Alice and Florence.

After graduating high school, Edward joined the Navy ROTC and attended Marquette University, where he began a distinguished career of service to his country. He continued his service as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, an experience that shaped his strong sense of duty and leadership.

In 1961, Edward joined the New York City Police Department. Over the course of two decades, he rose through the ranks with honor and dedication, ultimately retiring as a captain in 1981. His career in law enforcement reflected the same steadfast values he carried throughout his life: integrity, discipline, and a deep commitment to public service.

After returning home from the Navy, Edward met the love of his life, Anne McDonough. The two were married on May 2, 1959, and began their life together in Great Kills, Staten Island, eventually settling in Pleasant Plains. Together, they raised three children: Anne-Marie Loganbulh (John Loganbulh), Maureen Moore (Michael Moore) and Edward Mahoney (Tara Mahoney).

Edward will be fondly remembered by his five cherished grandchildren—Connor Moore, Kendall Moore, Ryan Mahoney, Jacquelyn Mahoney, and Corrin Mahoney—who brought great joy to his later years.

A man of many passions, Edward was known in his neighborhood for his beautifully tended gardens, a source of pride and beauty for all who passed by. He was also a lifelong fan of New York sports, faithfully cheering on the Yankees and Giants.

Edward Mahoney’s life was one of dedication— to his family, his community, and his country. He will be deeply missed and remembered always with love and respect.
