Emmanuel Darmanin, born February 14, 1944, in Żabbar, Malta, the son of John and Mary Darmanin, passed away on July 11, 2026. He immigrated to the United States in 1954.

Emmanuel (“Manny”) attended Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx, New York, earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the City College of New York, and an MBA from Baruch College (CUNY). He participated in the ROTC program at CUNY and received a Regular Army Commission.

Manny proudly served his adopted country as an officer in the United States Army, attaining the rank of First Lieutenant in the Air Defense Artillery. During his service, he was stationed in Korea and served as aide to Lieutenant General George Sammet, Jr., an assignment that reflected the professionalism, judgment, and leadership for which he was known. He was honorably discharged in 1970. The discipline, integrity, and sense of duty he developed in the military remained hallmarks of his character throughout his life.

Manny enjoyed a distinguished career in commercial finance spanning more than three decades. He began his career at Manufacturers Hanover and spent twenty-six years with CIT Group’s Business Credit division, serving as President and Chief Executive Officer for the final decade of his tenure, helping build one of the nation’s leading asset-based lending businesses. He later served as President of AmSouth Capital Corp. in New York, advising and financing middle-market companies through complex acquisitions, restructurings, and growth initiatives.

Manny met Camille, his wife of fifty-nine years, in 1962, when they were both out with friends to see a movie. Manny, a lifeguard for a New York City pool, recognized one of Camille’s friends. Camille and Manny were introduced and sat next to one another during the movie. Afterward, both groups of friends went to a pizzeria. Manny asked Camille if he could walk her home, and they were together every day from that night forward, building the family we are today.

Manny loved spending time with his family, the beach, swimming, gardening, maintaining the family home, Camille’s cooking, and sharing life’s experiences with others. Nothing was more important to him than his family, and his life stands as a monument to that conviction. Manny was an extraordinary son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, friend, and uncle. He lived a life of non-negotiable principles.

Manny is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Camille (Cicero) Darmanin; his three children, Laura Healy, John Darmanin (Joanne Darmanin), and Lisa Cheripka (Brian Cheripka); his seven grandchildren, Robert Healy, Justin Cheripka, Isabella Darmanin, Sophia Cheripka, Alexandra Darmanin, Ryan Cheripka, and Isabella Cheripka; and his siblings, Connie Cain and Joseph Darmanin.
