Estelle Wayne

February 28, 1928 — August 16, 2023

Estelle (Jablow) Wayne, age 95, of Tottenville, Staten Island passed away on August 16, 2023.  Born in Brooklyn on February 28, 1928 to Julius and Ida Jablow, Estelle lived in Brooklyn until moving to Staten Island in the early 1950’s.  She obtained her teaching degree and was a History Professor at Tottenville High School. She then took time off to raise her children during their preschool years.  Following that period she obtained her Masters Degree at Rutgers University in Library Science.  She became a beloved school librarian at P.S. 1 in Tottenville, retiring in 1990. Estelle spent her lifetime teaching others, whether it was in the classroom or in the living room. She always had a story to share.

Following her retirement she and her husband Ben traveled and spent time with friends and family. Family was very important to them and they added many friends to that family.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, Benjamin, her sister, Marcia, brothers, Robert and Samuel.

She is survived by her daughters, Julie Quinton (James), Carolyn Wayne, and Elizabeth Fell (Robert), and by her sons, Richard Katz (Janie), and Kenneth Wayne (Cynthia).  She leaves behind many cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She also leaves behind
her best friend, Nancy Tierney.  They were the dynamic duo.  Estelle touched many lives and was adored by all.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Holocaust Museum or to the New York Public Library.
