It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father, Gary John App. He was born on February 2, 1952, in Staten Island, New York, and passed away peacefully at home on January 23, 2026, at the age of 73, surrounded by the love of his family, after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Gary was a devoted husband, father, and family man whose life was defined by service, devout faith, and quiet strength. He proudly served his country in the United States Army for nine years before beginning a long career in the telecommunications industry with Sprint. He later continued his public service with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), where he remained until his retirement.
A man of devout faith, Gary was a longtime and active parishioner of Our Lady Help of Christians Church. He regularly attended Mass and generously volunteered his time as both a lector and Eucharistic minister—roles he took seriously and carried out with humility and dedication.
Gary is survived by his beloved wife, Lynn (Pierce); his son, Gary, and daughter-in-law, Nadia; his soon-to-be-born granddaughter; and his brother, Jack. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Muriel App, and by his brothers, Christopher and Douglas App.
Above all else, Gary will be remembered as a loving husband and father—steady, kind, and deeply devoted to his family. His presence, faith, and love will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.
Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, January 29, 2026, at Bedell Pizzo Funeral Home from 2 – 4 pm and 7 – 9 pm, Staten Island, New York.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 30, 2026, at Our Lady Help of Christians Church, Staten Island, New York. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
