Gerard Jensen

May 29, 1951 — February 25, 2023

Gerard (Gerry) Jensen passed away suddenly on February 25, 2023, surrounded by loving family. Gerard was born in Queens, NY on May 29, 1951, to father Fredrick Jensen and mother Clara (nee Hall). Gerry was the second child in a line of 9 children, late Joseph, Fredrick (Fritz), Philip, late Carl, Clair Tarantino, late Christopher, Linda Fehlhaber, Lawrence. Gerry moved to Staten Island at the age of two (2) to the New Dorp section with his family where they lived for many years before moving to Great Kills. Gerry started his career with the Staten Island Advance as a carrier with his brothers as a young teen. After turning 18, Gerry started full time with the SI Advance in the mailroom before obtaining a job as a truck delivery driver. A job Gerry had for 44 years before retiring in October of 2015. Gerry still has many friends from the Advance he keeps in touch with and meets for lunch. In addition to being a delivery driver, Gerry also helped his children with their paper routes with delivery when they were unavailable due to school obligations. Gerry continued helping them with their routes for 12 years before they gave it up.  Family and friends were very important to Gerry. He loved to spend time with them at parties and just hanging out in the yard. Gerry was known to man the grill at barbecues and was known as the Grill Master. Family looked forward to Gerry being at the grill for his delicious food. Gerry met the love his life, Carol and they were married for over 36 years. They are the parents of two amazing adult children, Nicole and Gerard Jr. Gerry enjoyed taking vacations with his family to Florida, a cruise to Bermuda, Ocean City Maryland, Bahamas, Jamaica. Gerry enjoyed watching his children participate in various sports during their childhood through high school and college. He would cheer them on at basketball games, track meets, gymnastics and cheer competitions. Gerry even coached his son in little league baseball.  Gerry was a fan of watching sports himself and liked the NY Mets, NY Jets and was a big Nascar Fan. He went to races at Pocono Speedway and took a tour at Daytona Speedway.

After retiring from the SI Advance, Gerry wanted to return to the work force and took a part time job working overnights at Shoprite to keep busy. Gerry made many new friends he enjoyed working with. Gerry was the type of person that would go out of his way to help anyone in need. He would help with moving jobs, work on friends' cars, and offer rides if needed.  Gerry will be missed by everyone that knew and loved him. Gerry is survived by his wife Carol, children Nicole (Joseph) and Gerard Jr, his brothers, sisters and many nieces and nephews.
