Harriet T. Martens

January 9, 1928 — May 14, 2023

Harriet T. Martens, 95, Passed away on May 14, 2023.  Harriet was born in West New York, New Jersey to Anna Lillian (Weisse) and William Martens.  The family then moved to University Avenue in the Bronx where she was raised.

Harriet received her Master's degree in Education from Hunter College.  She was a teacher and administrator for thirty five years and retired from Port Richmond H.S. in 1985.  She loved being a teacher and wanted her students to excel.  She was strict but very caring and had received numerous letters from her former students thanking her for holding them to such high standards.

She was a devout Roman Catholic.  She was also an animal lover, especially dogs, and she donated generously to animal charities for their well-being.

Harriet enjoyed travelling with friends and family.  She especially loved driving road trips with her young nieces and nephew.  Harriet was our family's caregiver for decades--aunts and cousins, but especially her mother and sister.

Harriet was a genuinely kind, caring, and considerate person.  She was truly interested in every aspect of a person's life and gave to others in so many ways.

Harriet was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Dorothea and Robert Scott; nephew, James Scott; grand nephew, Brian Fallon.
