It is with deep sorrow and profound love that we announce the passing of John King, who died on January 29, 2026, in Staten Island, New York. He was 82 years old. Born on May 31, 1943, in Brooklyn, New York, John lived a life defined by service, devotion to family, and commitment to community.
John was the beloved son of Edward King and Helen King (née Pearce), both of whom predeceased him. He was a devoted husband to Nancy King (née Sindle) and a loving father to Sean King, Noel King, and his late daughter Shanna King, who passed away in 1999. John was also a proud grandfather to Emily King, Aidan King, and Harrison King, the cherished children of Sean and his wife Trisha King (née Smith).
He is survived by his siblings, Edward King, Patricia Van Name (née King), and Margaret Bell (née King), along with many extended family members and friends who loved him dearly.
John dedicated his life to serving others. He honorably served in the United States Marine Corps, attaining the rank of Corporal before his discharge in 1964. Following his military service, John joined the New York City Police Department, serving with distinction at the 67th Precinct in Brooklyn and the 120th Precinct in Staten Island. After 20 years of service, he retired in 1993 with the rank of Detective.
His commitment to public service continued well beyond his police career. John served for nearly 25 years as a Security Officer at Staten Island University Hospital, retiring in 2022. Even in retirement, he remained deeply engaged in the community he loved.
John was a proud and active member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians since 2000. He served as Chairman of the Staten Island St. Patrick’s Day Parade for several years, was honored as Grand Marshal of the Staten Island St. Patrick’s Day Parade in 2019, and previously served as Aide to the Grand Marshal of the New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade in 2016. He was also instrumental in the establishment of the Irish Cultural Center on Staten Island, leaving a lasting legacy of cultural pride and service.
In addition, John was an active member of the Marine Corps League, where he served as Commandant for several years, continuing his lifelong dedication to his fellow Marines.
John King will be remembered as a man of honor, strength, faith, and unwavering devotion to his family, his country, and his community. His legacy of service and love will live on in all who had the privilege of knowing him.
