Jean Sozio

Jean Sozio, a beloved matriarch and treasured family member and friend, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2025. She was born on August 28, 1940 in Greenock, Scotland and in 1960 came to the United States to start a new life. She married the love of her life, Gerardo Sozio, on October 10, 1964 in Brooklyn and together they built a beautiful family, creating a legacy that will carry for generations.

Jean is survived by her husband Gerardo Sozio, her four children, Margaret Grillo, Sharon Cornacchio, Gerry Sozio and Louis Sozio along with her daughter in-law Jill Sozio and her son in-laws Anthony Grillo and Chris Cornacchio. Jean was a proud grandmother to Anthony and Vincent Grillo, Nicole, Julilette and Louis Sozio, and Christopher and Sienna Cornacchio. She is also survived by her sister Elsie and brother Louis, her sister-in-law Melina, along with many nieces and nephews.

Jean’s greatest joy was her family. She loved spending time with them whether it was in Brooklyn or Staten Island. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was a simple person. The little things in life made her happy. Music was always therapy for Jean. She loved listening to Elvis Presley and always loved to dance. If there was a party she would be the first one out on the dance floor and dance the night away. She loved to stay busy whether it was strolling down 86th Street shopping for the best deals or grabbing a slice of pizza at DaVinci’s. She also loved going to Atlantic City with her husband Gerardo and her dear friend Angela, to try her luck at the slot machines.

As we remember Jean, we carry forward her legacy of love, laughter and the importance of family. We are forever grateful for the time we shared with such a wonderful woman. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will always remain in our hearts.
