Our beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother Joan Gertrude Dorney at the age of 92 of Port St Lucie, Florida formerly of Tottenville, Staten Island passed away on May 15, 2026.
Joan was born February 28,1934 in Brooklyn, New York to Hugh and Lillian Cruickshank. Joan met the love of her life, William Charles Dorney. They were married on August 28, 1954 at St. Matthew's Church in Brooklyn. She worked in Manhattan as a secretary and while raising her children she worked in the Contract Department for Sears where she retired. Joan and Bill loved traveling and did cross country trips together. After retirement they went to live in Edgewater, Florida. Joan was a devoted Catholic and had four children. She loved being around her family and friends. She had an abundance of love for her nieces and nephews. For the past three years, our mom has lived in Port St. Lucie with her son Bill and his wife Mary. She loved spending her happy days relaxing in the warmth and sunshine on their lanai. While living on Staten Island she belonged to the North Shore Grandmothers Club, was active and involved with her church, Our Lady Help of Christians, and her Friday Friend Group who did movies and lunch together.
Joan was predeceased by her beloved husband William Charles; her son Francis Dorney; brother Hugh Cruickshank (Joan); sister in law Julia McClean (Donald) and son in law Robert Ward.
She is survived by her loving children; her daughter Deborah Ward; sons William and Gerard Dorney; her daughters in law Mary and Jeanne Dorney; her grandchildren Wiliam Dorney (Fuka), Alyssa Moleski (Christopher), Shannon Bisdee (Brent), Kaityn Ward, James and Marissa Donahue; brother in law James Dorney (Trish). She was also the proud great grandmother of Madison, Charlotte, Brooklyn, and Holly who adored her greatly.
