Joseph W. Hegel

Joseph “Joe” Hegel 89, passed away on August 7, 2026.

Joe was born and raised in Hell’s Kitchen in New York City.

Joe joined the Air Force and later went on to work for Lockheed Martin. Joe later became a police officer with the NYPD and became a Mounted Police Officer. Joe participated in many parades and horse shows which he truly enjoyed.

Joe married the love of his life, Helene, in 1970 and moved to Staten Island where he remained.

He was a boxing fan (regardless of the language that was in). He loved his baked clams and his Merlot and was obsessed with his crossword puzzles. He also enjoyed harassing the dogs playing his harmonica.

Joe was a great storyteller because he lived a pretty interesting life. If there was a mechanical job or home project in his younger years, Joe tackled it.

Joe was pre-deceased by his parents, Andrew and Anna Moore and brothers Andrew, Raymond and Kenneth.

He is survived by his spouse, Helene (Krishok); Daughter, Colleen and her husband Christopher; son Joseph, granddaughter Ava, brother in law Michael and sister in law Joann and many loving nephews and nieces who he adored.
