Kenneth Hagemann

Kenneth (Kenny) Hagemann, 66, of Staten Island, New York, passed away September 17th, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

A lifelong resident of Staten Island, Kenny was born on May 26th, 1960 to John and Yvonne (née Stone) Hagemann.

He spent his childhood in Pleasant Plains and graduated from Tottenville High School where he was a standout football and baseball player. He was drafted by the MLB Boston Red Sox in 1978 as their 4th pick overall. His love for baseball was instilled in him by his father John, an MLB scout for over 40 years.

Kenny then went on to work briefly for the NYPD, sharing his father’s badge number. His true calling then came, serving the FDNY in Engine 17 and Ladder 18 in Manhattan and Ladder 84 on Staten Island until he retired in 2012. He was a dedicated fireman and was there on that fateful day on 9/11, instinctively doing what they do best, sacrificing for others. He was overjoyed when on that horrific day he was reunited with his brother John (also FDNY) on the Staten Island Ferry.

Kenny was a loving father to Regina, Christopher, Patrick, and Helen. His passion for family time was evident to all those who knew him. An outdoorsman, he enjoyed many years at his family cabin in the Adirondacks. Days there were filled with family trips to Minerva Lake, cliff and bridge jumping, hiking, and campfires. Those days always ended with a huge family dinner. Kenny loved gathering around the dinner table and feeding as many people as he could. He perfected his father’s famous chicken cacciatore, Sunday Sauce, and chili.

Kenny had a huge heart, always helping those in need. All were welcome at his table at any time, family or stranger. He touched many lives with his kindness, humor, generosity, and infectious smile. He too often had to “pick himself up, dust himself off, and start all over again.”

Kenny is predeceased by his loving parents John and Yvonne, his adored aunt Angela, and his uncle Jimmy. He is survived by his children Regina (Mike Sperling), Christopher, Helen, and Patrick; his siblings John (Deb McCole) and Jeannine (Frank Gambardella); his nieces Allison (Mike Butler), Caroline (Nick Volpe), and Jane; his nephews Zach Hunold (Liz) and Dylan Hunold (Tara); his grandchildren Charlotte and Michael Sperling; his great-niece Holly Butler and great-nephew Rowan Butler; his aunts Mary Verderber and Connie Nixon (Russell); and his uncle Raymond. Kenny is also survived by his first wife, Susan McKay (mother of Regina and Christopher) and second wife Lori Hagemann (mother of Patrick and Helen), as well as many cousins.
