Luiciano "Louis" Posillipo

Luiciano "Louis" Posillipo passed away peacefully on Friday, July 24, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. 

He was 87 years old. Born in Manhattan on November 20, 1938, to the late Dominick and Angelina (Martello) Posillipo, Louis lived a life defined by hard work, unwavering devotion to his family, and a generosity that touched everyone who knew him. He spent his early years in Manhattan before moving to Staten Island, where he married the love of his life, Janice (Van Hecke) Posillipo, and together they built a beautiful family. They later lived in Little Egg Harbor before he settled in Fords, New Jersey. 

Louis was predeceased by his beloved wife, Janice; his brother, Anthony Posillipo; his sister, Nancy McCabe; his sisters and brother-in-law, Doris Wilgus and Helen and John Lombardo; and his brother-in-law, William Van Hecke. 

He is survived by his loving children, Dominick Posillipo and his wife, Jodi, Jane Luria and her husband, Stephen Luria Jr., and Janice O'Neil. He was the proud grandfather of Courtney Luria, Emma Luria, Kelly O'Neil, Robert O'Neil and his wife, Marley, and Dani Behr and her husband, Jacob William Behr. He was also the proud great-grandfather of Daniel O'Neil, who brought him immeasurable joy. He is further survived by many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and lifelong friends. 

For decades, Louis worked as a carpenter and foreman, helping construct many of the buildings that define the Manhattan skyline. Whenever he passed one of those buildings, he would proudly point it out and say, "I laid that building out." He took tremendous pride in his work, but he was even more proud of using his talents to help others. Whether it was renovating a family member's home, lending a hand to a friend, or rebuilding his own home after Hurricane Sandy almost entirely by himself, he never hesitated to put his skills to work for the people he loved.

 Although his work was important to him, nothing compared to the love he had for his family. His greatest happiness came from having everyone together. His shore house and the family's summer home in the Pocono Mountains became gathering places where lifelong memories were made. Countless weekends were spent fishing, crabbing, boating, horseback riding, skiing, playing cards, sharing meals, and simply enjoying one another's company. Those weekends created traditions that his family will cherish forever. 

Louis had a wonderful sense of humor and delighted in playfully tricking his grandchildren, whose laughter brought him endless happiness. He was patient, kind, and always willing to teach, especially when it came to fishing. 

He loved showing children how to bait a hook, cast a line, and appreciate the simple joy of spending a day by the water. In his later years, he especially treasured visits to the lake house with his daughter Jane and her family, where he found peace fishing on the lake and creating even more cherished memories. 

He also had a deep love for animals and found great comfort and companionship in Brutus and Oakley, who remained faithfully by his side and brought him much happiness. 

Louis treasured the friendships he built throughout his life. He enjoyed countless games of cards and dominoes with his dear friend Ralph Castillo and deeply valued the lifelong friendships he shared with Ralph and Luz Castillo, as well as Kathy and Matthew Fiorentino. Their friendship brought laughter, companionship, and countless treasured memories. 

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to his devoted caregiver and dear friend, Margaret, whose compassionate care, dedication, and companionship brought comfort and dignity to his life. They also extend their deepest appreciation to his granddaughters, Courtney, Emma, and Kelly, whose daily visits, unwavering support, and loving care meant more to him than words could ever express. 

Louis will be remembered as a man who never looked for recognition. He simply believed that when someone needed help, you showed up. He was hardworking, dependable, generous, funny, and endlessly devoted to his family. The homes he built stand as a testament to his craftsmanship, but his greatest legacy is the family he loved so deeply, the values he instilled, and the countless lives he touched through his kindness and selflessness. 

Though his presence will be profoundly missed, his stories, laughter, strength, and unconditional love will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him. His memory will continue to guide his family for generations, reminding them that the greatest measure of a life is not found in what we build with our hands, but in the love we leave behind.

 Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Thursday, July 30, 2026, 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Bedell Pizzo Funeral Home, 7447 Amboy Rd., Staten Island, NY 10307. A Funeral Service will take place on Friday, July 31, 2026, 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Ocean View Cemetery, 3315 Amboy Rd., Staten Island.
