Luigina D'Angelo

November 23, 1933 — January 30, 2023

Luigina D’Angelo, beloved mother, grandmother, and aunt, passed away on January 30, 2023. Born on November 23, 1933, as Luigina Tignanelli, in Aprigliano, a town in the Calabrian region of southern Italy, Luigina was the sister of Franco and Maria. Along with her mother, Luigina first immigrated to the United States in September 1954. She returned to Italy for a brief visit in 1956, only to meet Sebastiano D’Angelo, whom she would marry on October 11, 1956. The couple went on to share a loving life and family together for fifty-one years.

Described by the many who love her as “una gran donna,” a matriarch of great wisdom, character, and presence, Luigina was a talented seamstress and an unmatched cook. Her greatest achievements, however, were as mother and grandmother, with a love and affection for her family that knew no bounds. She was an anchor for her family, teaching all who were blessed to know her the depth of compassion, kindness, and unexpected humor. She was a lover of delicious food, televisions that would remain on RAI and baseball, and spending time with family and friends.

Luigina is survived by her daughter, Maria, her son, John, her son-in-law, Steven, and her grandchildren, Joseph, Christina, and Giovanni. Though her passing leaves her family with a void of great sorrow, Luigina found comfort in returning to the loving arms of God, where she would be reunited with all those who passed before her. It is in this knowledge that her family finds comfort.
