Marilyn Black Gerson, born February 12, 1941, passed away peacefully at the age of 84 on Friday, November 28, 2025, at John T. Mather Hospital in Port Jefferson, New York. Born in Huntington, New York, Marilyn spent her early years there before moving with her parents: George and Mary Black, and her siblings — Edgar, Joseph, Larry, and John — to Brooklyn, New York.
Marilyn later married Robert Gerson and settled on Long Island, where she devoted her life to raising her children: Robert, Ronald, Gregg, and David. When the marriage ended, she shared many years with her longtime partner, Lloyd “Mike” Combs. The two retired together to Spring Hill, Florida, where they built a warm and loving life.
Marilyn loved to reminisce, often joking about the girlish figure she had in her teens. She appreciated the simple things in life — music, dancing, gardening, browsing garage sales, collecting little knick-knacks, and enjoying the charm of small-town shops close to home.
She took great pride in keeping a beautiful home, especially after her annual spring and fall cleanings, and she had a special talent for decorating. Her home was magical during the Christmas season.
Marilyn found joy in cooking for family and friends, especially when company was coming over, as her happiest moments were those spent surrounded by the people she loved. She laughed often, sharing old stories and reminiscing with a warm, familiar spark. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she treasured every moment she spent with them.
A woman of quiet but steadfast faith, Marilyn was a devoted Catholic who prayed daily and lived her life with gentle kindness and unwavering love.
She is predeceased by her beloved son Ronald Gerson; her partner, Lloyd “Mike” Combs; and her brothers Edgar, Joseph, and Larry.
She is survived by her children: Robert Gerson, Gregg (Kerri) Gerson, and David Gerson; her brother John Black; many nieces, and nephews, and her cherished grandchildren — Gregg, Timothy, and Randy.
