Former Staten Islander Mary W. (Johnny) McGeehan, 95, of Plantation, Fla., a longtime member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Huguenot and a retired secretary, died Dec. 29, 2010, at home.

Born Mary W. Wilson in Wadmalaw Island, S.C., she moved to Charleston, S.C., 25 years later. In 1940, she moved to Prince's Bay, and later resided in Tottenville and Elm Park. She relocated to Plantation in 1989.

Mrs. McGeehan attended Rice Business College, Charleston, and obtained diplomas from the College of Charleston, Winthrop College, Rock Hill, S.C. She later attended Wagner College and Rutgers University.

She worked for 27 years as a school secretary at PS 1 in Tottenville for the former city Board of Education. Prior to that, she worked for the federal government as a secretary on Governors Island. Mrs. McGeehan also worked for five years as a secretary for an engineering company in Charleston.

She was a former member of the Huguenot Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of United Methodist Women; the AARP; Social Club of Retired Persons; National Association of Senior Friends, and United Federation of Teachers.

Mrs. McGeehan was a member of Plantation United Methodist Church. She was a former member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church and Plantation Community Church.

She enjoyed traveling and nature trips, arts and crafts and reading.

Her husband of 28 years, John Albert, died in 1969.

Surviving are her stepson, Bill Fodor, and her niece, Victoria Simoneau.

The funeral service will be tomorrow at noon in the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville. Burial will follow in Ocean View Cemetery, Oakwood.
