Matthew Taylor, III, 92, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on February 16, 2024.

Matthew was born in Dongan Hills, Staten Island on August 8, 1931.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from January 18, 1952 to October 17, 1953.  He received the Bronze Star  with letter V (for valor) and a Purple Heart due to his heroic actions in connection with military operations against an armed enemy.  After his discharge, he worked in Clove Lakes Nursing Home in the kitchen from 1957 to 1958.  From 1958 until 2011, he worked as a security guard at the Public Health Hospital better known as Bayley Seton Hospital.

Matthew married Delores Matula on October 27, 1958.  They lived in various areas of Staten Island including New Dorp, Park Hill, and Oakwood before settling in Princes Bay.  Together they raised three daughters, Elizabeth, Deborah, and Tracey.  He enjoyed fishing and playing dolls (Aunt Betty) with them.  They took many trips to the Adirondacks and Lakewood, New Jersey.  After his daughters were older, Matthew and Delores would travel to many nearby states.  They loved just driving and getting lost.  

Matthew enjoyed watching his favorite teams, NY Mets and NY Jets play.  He loved fishing , playing all kinds of card games and board games.  He was the best at Telestrations, saying, "I didn't draw that!"

He will be greatly missed and was very loved.

Matthew was predeceased by his two brothers.  He is survived by his loving wife, Delores; daughters, Elizabeth, Deborah, Tracey; nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
