STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Michael P. Carr, 70, of Pleasant Plains, a U.S. Navy veteran and history buff, died Friday at home.
Born in Brooklyn, he moved to Pleasant Plains in 1977. He graduated from Erasmus Hall High School, Brooklyn, and later earned an associate's degree from Brooklyn College.
Mr. Carr served in the U.S. Navy from 1960 to 1962 and in the Army Reserve until 1965. He later worked for the NYPD, and then transferred to the FDNY. He retired in 1986, but continued to work as an air conditioner and refrigerator engineer for seven years.
In his free time, he enjoyed reading, model trains, studying history, especially Colonial Williamsburg, and carpentry.
He was a parishioner of St. Thomas the Apostle R.C. Church, Pleasant Plains.
Surviving are his wife of 49 years, the former Joanne Landzert; three sons, Michael Jr., Kevin and Robert; one daughter, Erin Carr; three sisters, Christine Stahman, Eileen Jackson-Houlihan and Kathleen Hasselmann, and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be tomorrow from the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville, with a mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Thomas the Apostle Church. Arrangements include cremation in the Rosehill Cemetery, Linden, N.J.
