Nolan J. Lau, P.E., a dedicated civil engineer and beloved member of his community, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism, kindness, and unwavering support for those he loved. Born in Bronx, NY, Nolan grew up with a profound sense of purpose and a commitment to his profession, which guided him throughout his life.

A proud graduate of Monsignor Farrell High School, Nolan pursued his passion for engineering with vigor, earning a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Manhattan College. His journey led him to the New York State Professional Engineers License in 1978, which marked the beginning of a distinguished career with the NYC Department of Environmental Protection. As Chief of the City’s Capital Drainage Program, Nolan's expertise contributed significantly to the safety and well-being of New York City’s infrastructure.

After a decade of dedicated service, Nolan co-founded Lau and Shabunia with his esteemed colleagues Frank Tartaro and Raymond Shabunia. Together, they forged a path that exemplified Nolan's work ethic and commitment to excellence in civil engineering.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Nolan was a die-hard fan of the New York Yankees and New York Giants, always celebrating their victories with enthusiasm. He cherished the simple joys of life, emanating warmth and positivity. With a ready smile and an open heart, he was always eager to lend a hand to friends and family alike.

Nolan is survived by his sister, Elizabeth and many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews who will forever hold his memory close. He was predeceased by his beloved parents, Frank Lai Sun Lau and Toni Ngon Sen Lau, as well as his brother Eddie Lau and sister Wah Lai Lau Gee.

His legacy of kindness, dedication, hard work and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
