Patrick J. Lavin
Retired NYPD detective; volunteer for South Shore Little League
It is with great sadness the family of Patrick Joseph Lavin announce his passing on Dec. 15, 2018, at SIUH - South, after a complication from surgery.
Patrick, a son of the late Thomas P. Lavin and Valerie (Koliski) Lavin, was born in Queens, N.Y., on Sept. 24,1946, grew up in Prince's Bay and was a graduate of Tottenville High School. Patrick served in the NYPD for over 30 years, represented the union as DEA delegate, and retired from the Intelligence Division as a second grade detective in 1998. After retiring, he joined the Pioneer Bus Company and drove students to school across Staten Island.
Patrick enjoyed volunteering his time at South Shore Little League as a girls softball coach, and as of most recently an assistant district administrator for district 24 Little League. He was a devoted parishioner at Our Lady of Help of Christians Church in Tottenville, where he participated in various church ministries including usher, lector, holiday decorating, and a member of the golf committee. In appreciation for all the church volunteers, he held an annual bike raffle. He was also an avid golfer and delighted in his time on the links and gained much pleasure in lending a helping hand to others.
Patrick resided in Tottenville with his wife of 46 years, Marilyn (Rugge), and their three children, Blakleigh (Joseph) Flaherty, Thomas (Joanna and the late Tara Marie) Lavin, and Kevin (Kimberly) Lavin, and his six grandchildren, Benjamin and Connor Flaherty, Isabella and Joseph Lavin and Mackenzie and Riley Lavin, also survive him. He also leaves his sisters, Constance Lindsey and Mary Anna Donahue; his brother, Thomas Lavin, as well as his great aunt, Mary Koliski, and many nieces and nephews.
