Paul was born at Muhlenberg Hospital in Plainfield NJ on May 27th 1942. He was the second of 11 siblings born to Dorothy (Dottie) Shoemaker. His childhood years were spent in several New Jersey communities including Plainfield, New Market, and Oak Tree. He started a family with his wife Joanne and children Lisa Marie and Paul Jr. He was a longtime employee of John's Bargain Stores achieving the title of Vice President. As a young man he moved to Staten Island where he worked at Waldbaums before purchasing one of the famous Ralston Stores in Tottenville and renaming it Rose & Paul's Deli. He became active in Tottenville and greater Staten Island communities serving as President of the Tottenville Merchants Association and the South Shore Lions Club. He was also Vice President of the 123rd Precinct Community Council, the Staten Island League for Better Government, and the Staten Island CYO. During his decades of community service, he also served on Community Board #3 and Towns Against Graffiti. He restarted the famous Tottenville Flag Day Parades where he led the parade and street fair in 1996, 1997 and 1998. After decades of service in Staten Island he switched careers and became a Community Construction Liaison for the NYC Department of Design & Construction. He served on projects in Staten Island, Manhattan and Brooklyn for 20 years and retired in 2021 at the age of 80. He is survived by his children Lisa and Paul and granddaughter Josephine. His grandson Anthony preceded him death. He is also survived by his wife Joannene Kidder, step sons Alan and Timothy and their extended families.
Friends and Family may visit on Sunday, June 2 from 2-6 P.M and Monday, June 3 from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M at Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 am at Our Lady Help of Christians R.C. Church on Tuesday, June 4. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
