Robert Martin Bridge passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on July 9, 2025, at the age of 85. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather, cherished by all who knew him.
Robert was born on August 25, 1939, in Staten Island, New York, to Elizabeth and Stephen Bridge. He was married to his beloved wife, Clementine Bridge, for 63 years--a lifelong partnership marked by love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. Together, they raised two children, Lisa Bridge-Moskie and Robert Bridge, and built a close-knit family that became Robert's greatest joy.
A U.S. Navy veteran, Robert served his country with pride before going on to work as an elevator mechanic. He was known for his strong work ethic, precision, and deep loyalty to his trade.
Robert had a tough exterior but an extremely warm heart--a man of quiet strength, sharp wit, and constant generosity. He had a wonderful sense of humor that brought light and laughter to those around him. In his free time, he loved golfing, bowling, and playing catcher in baseball. He also served as an umpire for a men's baseball team and coached boys' basketball at the elementary school level, teaching not only the fundamentals of the game but also sportsmanship, teamwork, and confidence. A true outdoorsman at heart, Robert found great peace in nature and especially loved deer hunting--a passion he shared with friends and family alike.
He was an active and respected member of his community. Robert was a parishioner of Our Lady Help of Christians Church, a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, and served as an ambassador at South Shore Country Club. He also served as a pallbearer at Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, a testament to his care for others during their most vulnerable times.
Robert gave generously to causes close to his heart, including Autism Speaks and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
He is survived by his wife Clementine, his children Lisa and Robert, and his beloved grandchildren Michael, Andrea, and Christopher. He also leaves behind his two sisters, Evelyn and Laraine. He was preceded in death by his brother Steve, his sister Ruthanne, and his parents, Elizabeth and Stephen.
Robert will be remembered for his steadfast love of family, deep sense of duty, and the quiet warmth he brought into every room.
"In our hearts, you will always stay, loved and remembered every day."
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Autism Speaks or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Robert's memory.
