Robert "Bob" Sweetman

December 8, 1953 — June 26, 2025

Robert “Bob” Sweetman, passed away peacefully on June 26th, 2025, at the age of 71.

Bob was a lifelong resident of Staten Island, growing up in Tottenville when the island was considered “rural”. He joined the Department of Corrections in 1976 and retired as a Lieutenant after 30+ years of service. Bob was a friend to all. He was dependable, kind, someone you could look up to and loved by so many. A true gentleman, he lived up to his namesake as he was genuinely a Sweet Man. Bob had an infectious smile and contagious laugh. Even though he worked in a harsh environment, his gentle and kind disposition was never diminished. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Eva; daughter, Kristen (John) Bowen; grandsons, Graham, Ethan, and Luca Bowen; sister, Jill (Stephen) Berger; nephews, Stephen J. Berger and Lucian Berghela; nieces, Kaitlyn Leigh Berger, Lenore Granich (Jason) Berghela, and Siobhan Granich; mother-in-law, Anne Granich; along with many more nieces, nephews, close family, friends, and his beloved cats. He was predeceased by his parents, Jack and Edith Sweetman and brother, Jack Richard Sweetman.

A Memorial Service will be held at Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home in Staten Island on Saturday, July 19th from 12pm-4pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation or Little Wanderers NYC.
