Roberta Ann Afflitto

Roberta Afflitto, 73, of Staten Island, NY, passed away at Staten Island University Hospital on March 7, 2026 after complications from chronic Leukemia.

Roberta was born on July 24th 1952 in Brooklyn, NY to Arthur and Helen Chimerine. She attended Lincoln High School in Coney Island and Hunter and Brooklyn college receiving a masters degree in education. She married John Afflitto on August 15th, 1971. They moved to Annadale, Staten Island in 1977 from Brooklyn. They later had two children Aaron and Harlan. Later, she worked as a resource room teacher for the New York City Department of Education and retired from PS 69 in Heartland Village in 2010

Roberta enjoyed reading, drawing, music, and going to the beach. Always driven by a love for learning, she spent most of her retirement attending classes at the UFT (United Federation of Teachers). She will be remembered for her devotion to her children and grandchildren.

Roberta is survived by her two children, Aaron Afflitto, and Harlan Afflitto as well as her daughters in law whom she always referred to as her daughters, Lisa Feldman Afflitto and Victoria Scarano Afflitto, her four grandchildren, Jonathan, Jacob, Gavin, and Abigail. She is also survived by her companion of nearly 13 years Robert Byer.

Roberta was preceded in death by her Parents, Arthur (2018) and Helen Chimerine (1963); and her husband of 39 years John Afflitto (2010).

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday March 10th at 11a.m., at Greenwood cemetery 500 25th street (at 5th avenue) Brooklyn, NY 11232. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society in her honor.
