Rudolph DiNunzio

July 9, 1930 — October 31, 2022

Rudolph DiNunzio, 92, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. Rudy was born on July 9, 1930 to Gaetano and Carmela DiNunzio in Brooklyn, New York.

Rudy was a proud Korean War Veteran.

Rudy joined the FDNY in 1960.  He was assigned to a fireboat early in his career, then ended his service with the Fire Department at Engine 160 on Clove Road.  Before joining the FDNY, Rudy was a self-proclaimed serial employee, working as a butcher for NY Butchers, an insurance salesman for Metlife, a real estate agent, a bartender, a knife salesman, and many other jobs not named here.  He always joked that before he was married he had one hundred jobs!

Rudy was a consummate family man.  He was the driver to his wife, Anna.  He spent every holiday with his family and he loved his summer trips with his family especially the Outer Banks, Italy, and Lake George.  He loved to watch his favorite sports teams on TV; NY Mets, NY Giants (NY Jets too) and NY Rangers.  Rudy loved music and dancing.  You could always catch him singing Frank Sinatra and dancing at weddings and other affairs.  He was a very prominent, well-known and well-heard Grandpa at all of his children’s and grandchildren’s games.  When cheering at games and events, his grandchildren would always say they only heard Grandpa!  He attended the Friendship Club for twenty-two years (New Dorp and Great Kills) with his wife three days a week.  He was a great Pinochle card player even though his fellow players would disagree.

Rudy was pre-deceased by his siblings; Claudia (Howard), Arthur “Otto” (Johanna), Louis (Anne), Michael.

He is survived by his beloved wife of sixty-one years, Anna, his loving children, Karen (Paul), Anne, Steven (Amy); his cherished grandchildren, James (Katie), Chelsea (Wes), Christie, Paul, Derek, Justine, Gregory, Emma, Thomas, Natalie, and Charlotte.

Rudy had a great smile which was contagious to all around him.  He had a nutty streak that those who knew him loved him for.

If you judge a man’s life on how he was loved, he had the best life a man could have.
