Thomas J. Basso

Thomas John Basso, 59, of Staten Island, passed away peacefully with his sister, Margie at his bedside. 

Thomas was predeceased by his parents Thomas J. Basso and Hilda M. Basso. 

He is survived by his loving sister, Margaret A. Canfield (Margie Basso). 

He attended New Dorp High School and served in the U.S. Navy as a fireman on the USS New Jersey. 

He enjoyed visiting the battleship with family when it became a museum and memorial. 

Tommy was fond of fishing and boating with family and relaxing at the Great Kills Marina with family and friends. 

He was also a talented sketch artist, enjoyed listening to music, loved visiting historical museums and having fun at amusement parks.

Tommy was an avid collector of baseball caps, military memorabilia and driving gloves. 

Thomas was a loving, kind individual, ready to help others. In his younger years he would repair bicycles for young people and shovel snow for the neighbors. He was also very protective of his little sister, Margie who he adored. 

Most important to Thomas was his Catholic faith. He trusted Jesus with his whole heart. He often told Margie, “Keep the faith, go with God, God guides us”. 

Thomas will be remembered for being a devout Catholic who loved Jesus, loved life itself, loved his family and was a genuine caring son, brother, nephew, cousin, friend and a family member who loved everyone! A true genuine spirit!

Thomas John Basso will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

May he rest in peace.
