Staff Sergeant Thomas C. Lucas, a decorated combat war veteran who served during Operation Iraqi Freedom, slipped away into the hands of our Lord on May 6, 2023, surrounded by his wife and family.

A man of service, sacrifice and love as well as a native Staten Islander, Tommy was very active in several different organizations.  He was a Star Scout with Troop 46 in Tottenville.  He Played baseball for the South Shore and Babe Ruth Little League as well as being a member of the CYO basketball league.  He attended I.S. 34 and was a graduate of Tottenville HS where he played the alto saxophone in the concert and jazz bands.  He also served as an Alter Boy at St. Joseph's RC Church.  All his life, he was a die hard NY Ranger Fan and also loved watching the Yankees and Knicks play.

After graduation, he worked for CJ's Service Station, in Princes Bay, where he was also a tow truck driver working with AAA.  For several years, he worked at UPS and then as a mechanic for Bay Ridge Ford in Brooklyn.

In 1994, he joined the Army National Guard. He bravely served our country for 19 years, retiring in 2013.  During those 19 years, his leadership skills not only inspired many but helped earn him the rank of  (E6) Staff Sergeant.  He was a part of Delta Company 250BSB during his 3 years of active service from 2005-2008. During that time he was also a member of the 1st squadron and the 167 Calvary regiment (RSTA) OIF 06-08.  While honoring and serving our country, he earned several honors, awards and achievements including: The Meritorious Medal, Army Achievement medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Non Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, and the Overseas Service Ribbon.

In 2003, he went to work for the SIRTOA railroad as an Electric Equipment Maintainer.

When he wasn't working, he treasured spending time with his family; whether he was taking trips to Brazil, fishing out by the lake, spending time at the beach, coaching his twin sons' little league baseball team or taking his daughter to the park on the swings.  He will forever be deeply missed by all of those who loved him and by those whose lives he has touched and inspired.

He was predeceased in this physical life by his father, Thomas V. Lucas and his brother, Timothy Lucas.

He is survived by his wife, Priscila Lucas, his children, Thomas, Derek and Anajulia Lucas; his mother, Christina Lucas; his sister, Jessica Ludwig (Jason); his nephew Brandon Ludwig and nieces; Abigail and Madison Ludwig, and Maria Clara.
